Easier-to-use, a clean design, full control, and audio from more sources. Bookmobile provides a better experience for listening to audiobooks than any other app.
Try it now, for free, with up to 3 audiobooks or podcasts!
If you're using the iPhone's built-in Music app to listen to audiobooks or podcasts, you've probably been frustrated. Accidentally hit the skip button? Want to get back to a certain spot? Lost your book in Cover Flow?
Bookmobile was designed specifically for listening to and managing audiobooks and podcasts. It does a lot of things we hope you never notice. That's because we know the real point is that you just want to listen to your audio. Bookmobile makes that easy and enjoyable.
The main screen was designed to make it easy to progress through your books and podcasts, and hard to lose your place. The layout has been well thought out, and continually refined. With simple, separated controls, and no extra clutter, it's a joy to use.
It works like you expect it should. Audio continues playing even when the app is in the background, and books/podcasts automatically transition from one part to the next.
It's also easy to switch to something else. Listening to a long book, but want a break to hear that latest podcast episode? Perhaps you're listening to a book with your family in the car, and something else on your own. Pop open the Shortcuts Drawer and switch to something else with a single tap. Bookmobile remembers where you are and where you were.
With Bookmobile, every time an event happens, a bookmark is created. So if you get interrupted by a phone call, your sleep timer expires, you switch apps, or you just hit pause, Bookmobile will remember the date/time, and where you were in your audio. This means you can go back and pick up where you left off before you were distracted, or go back in time to where you remember hearing a part.
If you want to make note of something in the audio, just customize (edit) the bookmark you created when you hit pause. Customize with color, title or notes. You can view your custom bookmarks separately, and export them via email as text, HTML or CSV.
Too many bookmarks? Deleting all the old, auto-generated bookmarks is easy to do.
Whether you buy audiobooks from Audible.com or the iTunes Store, download free books from Librivox.org, rip audio CD's from your public library, or subscribe to RSS feeds, Bookmobile makes it easy to import and listen.
Bookmobile will play both DRM-enabled and non-DRM audio. It supports playing audio files that were synced from your computer using iTunes, or downloaded directly from anywhere on the Internet.
If you download audio, Bookmobile supports M4B audiobooks (including chapters), MP3 Files (with ID tags), MP3 Zip archive files, and downloading podcasts and audiobooks through an RSS description.
Bookmobile provides direct access the iTunes Store. Thousands of published audiobooks are searchable, and after you download an audiobook purchase, it's easy to add it to Bookmobile without syncing with iTunes.
Searching, browsing and downloading from the huge selection of audiobooks at LibriVox.org is built right in. Browse through thousands of books by genre, or search by title or author.
Dec 2013 Note: Librivox.org is undergoing a major update, and browsing genres does not work using Bookmobile at this time. In addition, Librivox searches are limited. This will be corrected as things stabilize at LibriVox. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Bookmobile can download audio files from any accessible URL, so feel free to use one of the many other sources of free audio on the web. Once you have the files downloaded to Bookmobile, you can rename, reorder parts, and provide your own cover image.
It's impossible for an app to know what you really want to do, or when you want to do it. Perhaps you only want to download when you are connected to WiFi, or just from your home WiFi. Or only if a file is under a certain size. Or maybe, at this moment you really do want to download using cellular data.
Bookmobile makes it easy to do things like check for new podcasts, download files, and delete files, so you can do them when you want. It tells you if a file needs to be downloaded, and you decide if now is the right time.
These are just some of Bookmobile's features. There's more, like audio file management, cover image replacement (including support for hi-res/Retina images), Bluetooth controls, sleep timer, and part renaming/reordering.
Bookmobile already provides the best experience for listening to and managing audiobooks, and yet is continually improving, so if it does not do what you need/want, please let us know.
