1. Download Widget
1. Download Widget
If you are using Safari, then you can mostly likely skip to step 2. If you are not using Safari, the widget should be downloaded to the normal location set by your browser, usually your Desktop. If the download doesn't happen, try right/ctrl clicking on download icon, and selecting "Download Link Target...". The downloaded file will either be a ".zip" file or a ".wdgt" file. If it is a ".zip" file, double-clicking will unzip the file into a ".wdgt" file. Double click the ".wdgt" file to start the installation.
2. Respond to Installation Prompts
Mac OS X should ask you if you want to install the widget and open it in Dashboard -- click "Install". The Dashboard will appear, and you will then be asked if you want to delete or keep the widget -- click "Keep".
3. Configure Widget
By default, Countabit starts with the title "Countabit" and units of "times" which while adequate, is not really descriptive of what you want to track. So, first thing, flip the widget over (using the "i" button in the lower right corner
), and enter your own title and units. While you're there, you might want to configure some of the other options, so you see the information in a way that makes the most sense to you.
4. Use Countabit!
Countabit is fully functional but limited in features. If you wish it did something more, try Countabout. It's just $5, and provides a lot more features.
*Apple requires display of the following instructions, but we think they don't accurately describe the installation process. "Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger is required. If you're using Safari, click the download link. When the widget download is complete, Show Dashboard, click the Plus sign to display the Widget Bar and click the widget's icon in the Widget Bar to open it. If you're using a browser other than Safari, click the download link. When the widget download is complete, unarchive it and place it in /Library/Widgets/ in your home folder. Show Dashboard, click the Plus sign to display the Widget Bar and click the widget's icon in the Widget Bar to open it."
