"Is there a way to navigate the widget without using the mouse?"
Yes! In fact, you can do just about everything from the keyboard. There are special key stroke commands available while in either of the data entry fields:
- shift-up/down-arrow: increments/decrements the current value
- shift-right/left-arrow: increments/decrements the current date
- shift-1 (!), shift-2 (@), shift-3 (#): switch between the individual trackers
- 'o' or 'c': toggles the drawers (o)pen or (c)losed
- 't': sets the date to (t)oday
"How do I delete a value?"
For the date of the value you'd like to delete, enter an 'x' in the value field and hit return.
"Is my personal information secure?"
Yes. Data is stored locally on your machine, so your personal information is as secure as you keep your computer. Countabout does not make any network connections, except on the rare occasion to check for updates, download styles, or register. The only information that ever leaves your computer is your purchased serial number and a requested style code.
"Can I track more than three things?"
Yes, but you'll have to do so with multiple widgets, so the data won't be charted together. The ability to track more than three things in each widget will be in a future version.
"Couldn't I just use a spreadsheet to do the same thing that Countabout does?"
Wha? A spreadsheet? Do you really want to fire up that behemoth to keep track of a few simple numbers, or create a bar chart using terms like $A1$B100?
"Yes, I really want to use the data in a spreadsheet."
Countabout version 1.2 and greater supports the creation of a CSV file which is easily imported into Excel and other spreadsheet applications. Simply click the "Export" button on the right-hand side of the bottom tray.
"Can I change the colors?"
Yes, if you have version 1.1 or later (if you don't, please download). Click here to browse the available styles, then just type in the key of the style you want into the data field and hit return. For version 1.1 or 1.2, go to the Updates tab on the back of the widget to change styles.
"How do I upgrade to a newer version?"
Just download the new version, and if necessary (depending on your browser), double click on the widget (.wdgt) file. In the dialog telling you that the widget is already installed, click the "Replace" button.
"Will I lose my data if I upgrade?"
No. After you upgrade, simply go to the "Data" tab on the back of the widget and select your previous data set.
"Can I print my Countabout?"
You can only print the Countabout widget by taking a screenshot of it (Cmd-shift-4 and then drag over the widget), but you can print all the captured data (charts, values, and annotations) by creating a report (left-hand "Report" button in the bottom tray).
"Can I email my Countabout data?"
If your default browser is Safari, you can easily email your Countabout data by creating a report (left-hand "Report" button in the bottom tray), and then clicking the "Mail Contents of This Page" in the "File" menu.
"Sometimes the chart "hover over" display stops working. Why is that?"
Some other widgets seem to cause the hover ability to disappear when you mouse over them (the Calculator for example), but it is re-enabled when you mouse over other widgets on the dashboard.
