Personal Numerical Information Made Easy!

Countabout lets you easily keep track of daily tallies (counts of items or events that change from day to day), and presents them with clear charts and simple statistics.

Trying to lose weight? Track your daily weight, calories and carbs. In to running? Keep a tally of your miles and time. Need to remember how much medication you've taken? You decide what you want to track — Countabout makes it easy.

Countabout is a Mac OS X Dashboard widget which makes it fast and convenient to enter and retrieve information.

Simple and Convenient

Countabout is simple to use. There are just two data entry fields, one for a value, and one for a date (and the date defaults to today, so you might not even need to change it). To add a new count tally for today, just type in the number and hit return. Need to enter a value for a different day (like yesterday, or last Friday)? Use the date increment/decrement buttons to change the date, or simply type the date in.

Do you want to enter values as they happen throughout the day? Perhaps you're keeping track of the calories you consume, and want to record them after each meal and snack. Just click on the "equals" button to switch to additive mode , and enter the incremental value -- your new value will be added to the existing total.

That's all there is to entering information.

Easy to Understand

Click on the left-hand drawer button to see a historical bar, line or area chart, and on the right-hand drawer button to get statistics for the daily values entered.

Clicking on the bars in the chart selects the date and value entered, making it just as easy to change a value as it was to enter the data originally. The timeframe is controlled by the pop-up menu in the right-hand drawer. The "Auto" setting shows all values entered, or select a time period, like this week, month, or year-to-date (YTD).

Common statistics are kept for your data, and are shown in the right-hand drawer. The statistics shown are based on the selected timeframe, so you can see your average for this week, the last 6 months, or ever since you've been tracking the information.

You can also set a target value for what you are tracking, so you can see how quickly you are approaching your goal.

Make Note of Special Days

Sometimes it's important to make note of events that may have affected your data. With Countabout, you can annotate any day (with or without data), so those extenuating circumstances can be remembered. The following three images show how to add notes to your counts.

Open bottom drawer and click center notepad button.

Enter your annotation, and click the close button.

Your note displays at the top of the chart whenever the day is selected.

See Different Aspects of Your Life

What affect does fat (or carbs, calories, etc.) have on your weight (or blood pressure, cholesterol, etc.)? Keep track of and understand the information that matters to you. Each Countabout allows you to track and correlate three different things. The title pop-up menu allows you to select one of three built-in tally trackers. Customize your Countabouts to show the name, units and statistics of your subject matter.

Each tracker works exactly the same way, but you can configure each separately, because the statistics you care about for one thing could be significantly different from another. For example, keeping a cumulative total makes sense if you are tracking the amount of money you are saving, but makes no sense at all if you are tracking your daily weight.

The data from all three trackers can be displayed on the same bar chart, so you can see how they compare, or you may show each individually. The three circles on the upper left of the chart control which data sets to show. The statistics in the right-hand drawer reflect the currently selected tracker, and the bar chart shows the values for the currently selected tracker with wide bars.

Want to track something completely different? Just create a new instance of a Countabout widget in your Dashboard (on the Dashboard screen, click the 'plus sign' in the lower-left, then find and click the Countabout icon). The tallying possibilities are endless -- check out our idea gallery for inspiration.

Reports and Exports

Would you like to print the data you've captured? You can export your Countabout data to an HTML report with a single button push. Simply open the bottom drawer, and click the left-hand Report button. A report will open in your default browser containing all the charts, values and annotations. This makes it easy to get printouts of your data, and if you use Safari, e-mail the full report to someone else (from the Safari "File" menu, click "Mail Contents of This Page"). The report is created using your selected timeframe, so you can easily generate different reports for different time periods.

You can export your data to Excel or another spreadsheet application, like Numbers. Simply click on the right-hand "Export" button in the bottom tray. A comma separated value (CSV) file will be created on your Desktop, which is easily imported into Excel.
